Volunteering – Make it Your Business!

The Volunteer Action Centre was pleased with the results of this recent event held at the Museum in Kitchener on Monday March 8th. It is very rare that such a diverse group of charitable organizations and businesses get together to simply explore ways to create successful volunteer engagement opportunities. The room was alight with great ideas and energy as we answered pointed questions to help The Volunteer Action Centre move forward with its Team Volunteering Project funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. National Volunteer Week – April 18 – 24
This year’s theme; Volunteers from Compassion to Action encompasses the inspiration of our volunteers. Take the time this National Volunteer Week to recognize the 12.5 million volunteers nationwide by saying THANK YOU. In the last year, they gave 2.1 billion hours, of their time, energy and skills to benefit our community agencies, hospitals, sports teams, environment, disaster relief and arts and culture scene to name a few. They are the selfless individuals who demonstrate their genuine compassion for the well being of others and in support of essential causes by taking action and making a difference.

Change the World - 2010 Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge - April 18–May 9
ChangeTheWorld Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge is a way for Ontario teens to make a difference in their lives and communities through volunteering. This year’s goal is of 10,000 Ontario youth volunteering for three hours during National Volunteer Week, April 18-May 9, 2010.
Grab this opportunity to attract youth volunteers in your organization. If you have any special projects and would like a youth group, please contact our Youth Challenge Coordinator Thomas Waites at youth@volunteerkw.ca

Volunteers are at the very heart of our Community. Their countless hours of volunteering make a difference in our community and in your organization. Their good deeds should not go unrewarded. Ending the Give a Day. Get a Disney Day Program
On February 11, HandsOn Network announced that 600,000 volunteers had already participated in the Give A Day. Get A Disney Day. program. Thanks to the exceptional programs and opportunities provided by the thousands of participating organizations, it’s anticipated that the goal of celebrating one million volunteers will occur very soon. Canada Revenue Agency Clarifies Volunteer Expense Policy
A recent policy commentary from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) indicates that official donation receipts can be issued in place of a cheque. To do so, a registered charity must have written permission from the volunteer that details their wish for a receipt instead of a reimbursement. To learn more about this issue, read the CRA policy for more details.

2007 Canada Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating - This webinar presented by Imagine Canada will present the findings from the CSGVP survey with details about trends, statistics and outcomes of Ontario’s volunteering and donating activities. The webinar will take place at the Volunteer Action Centre's board room to facilitate discussion among the participants after the workshop.
